About Anthony Lacavera
Venture Capitalist, Serial Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist.
History
Anthony grew up in Welland, a small town near the U.S. border in Ontario, A typical Canadian kid, he played hockey and enjoyed the outdoors, before heading for the big city to enroll in the University of Toronto Engineering program—before it even had “Computer” in the name. His entrepreneurial spirit began to kick in while at U of T, where he started developing businesses in the lab—even employing his peers.
Anthony started his first company fresh out of university with a small loan from the Royal Bank of Canada. Since then, he has founded and sold several companies across North America. In 1998 he founded Globalive, where he serves as Chairman. The company is recognized as a leader in successfully accelerating early-stage businesses. Globalive has an international footprint with over 200 investments to date in a range of companies from the technology, media and telecom industries. His book How We Can Win: And What Happens to Us and Our Country If We Don’t, was named an Indigo Top 10 Best Business Book.

Anthony regularly appears on television and radio for media outlets such as BNN Bloomberg. Anthony shares his business expertise and insights on artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and the telecommunications industry with audiences and business leaders around the world.
Investor
As a mentor and investor, he is involved in accelerators and incubators, including MaRS, Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), NEXT Canada and the DMZ. Anthony has done business in more than 30 countries, ranging from producing plays on Broadway to raising almost $2 Billion CAD in private capital.
Career Highlights
Named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2006.
Since 2009, Anthony has been a founding sponsor and supporter of Canada’s leading incubators and accelerators including NEXT Canada, the Creative Destruction Lab, the Ryerson DMZ, and the Entrepreneurship Hatchery at the University of Toronto Engineering school.
Also in 2010, Anthony produced the award-winning Laurence Olivier revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in London’s West End.
Named Canada's CEO of the Year in 2010.
In 2012, Anthony created the Lacavera Prize in partnership with the Entrepreneurship Hatchery at the University of Toronto Engineering School.
Produced Cirque Du Soleil Paramour on Broadway in 2016.
In 2016, WIND Mobile was sold to Shaw Communications for $1.6 billion.
Globalive was named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies for 12 consecutive years, from 2004 to 2016
Since 2018, Anthony has hosted the program Beyond Innovation, which airs on Bloomberg TV globally in 73 countries and is seen in over 437 million homes.
In 2018, Anthony founded Globalive Technology Partners to make investments in emerging blockchain-based startups.
As of October 2021, Globalive has over 100 early stage technology companies in its Globalive Ventures portfolio.
